Premier Staircase Flooring Installation

Kansas City Flooring Installation For Stairs From Top Industry Professionals

If you’ve started or are considering a home renovation, you’ve probably thought about the big things; a kitchen remodel, maybe a bathroom update. But have you considered giving your home a facelift by getting your stairs redone?

The staircase is often one of a home’s most prominent architectural features. Having an outdated or worn down staircase can take away from a home’s updated features and even deter potential homebuyers. A staircase remodel can instantly lift the appearance and aesthetics of your home. A well-maintained staircase is also an important part of keeping your home safe, as worn steps or loose parts can become dangerous.

Footprints Floors is your one-stop shop for all your staircase remodeling needs. If you’ve been searching for flooring for stairs or looking to replace your current wood stairs in Kansas City, our staircase installers handle everything! From start to finish, we provide a seamless experience.

Why Remodel Your Stairs During
Renovation?

Stairs are a beautiful architectural piece in your home, but there are many other reasons it’s a good idea to keep them updated. Whether it’s a full-scale remodel to match a home’s new look or just a new set of treads and risers, keeping your stairs in good shape is good practice as a homeowner.

  • Safety: A staircase is one of the highest traffic areas in a home, and as they become worn down over time, they can quickly become a safety hazard. Old stairs can become loose as the foundation settles, and wood stairs that aren’t maintained can become slippery. Loose holds or wobbly steps can also be dangerous. Well-kept stairs are less likely to lead to a fall, slip or other accident.
  • Home Value: In addition to making a home safe, an updated staircase is an important contributor to a home’s value. Scuffed or worn risers, broken spindles or steps that need to be refinished can lower home value.
  • Appeal: Along with increased home value, a beautiful staircase also has increased buyer appeal. If the staircase doesn’t match the rest of the home, it can be a drawback.

What is Stone Flooring?

Stone flooring may be a good choice for those who prefer an earthy feel. One can choose from many stone flooring types, including limestone, travertine, granite, marble and slate. The characteristics of those options will vary with each choice.

Limestone

Limestone flooring is a type of stone flooring that can be found in many modern-day residences. This type of stone flooring is not only popular, but also has many benefits. Limestone floors are one of the most durable types of materials due to their tough and heavy characteristics.

Limestone floors can hold up against scratches and spills, which means they do not need to be refinished as often as other materials.

Travertine

Travertine flooring is made of limestone that has been compacted and cemented together. Travertine comes in various colors, from tan, to brown, to black, each with unique characteristics.

Travertine can be challenging to install on your own due to the weight of the stone and the fact that it may not adhere if not correctly pressed down onto a surface. Travertine flooring will have a natural feel, as all the color variations come from natural impurities in the stone's formation.

Granite

Granite is an igneous rock that has formed over millions of years by the cooling and solidifying magma below Earth's surface. It is one of the hardest natural materials known to man. Granite's physical characteristics make it preferable for flooring as it has a uniform grain and texture, making each slab naturally easy to split into slabs.

The uniformity of granite also means that there are rarely any surprises with the final product because every piece will look similar to its neighbors.

Granite flooring is resistant to heat, water, scratches and stains, making it great for kitchens and bathrooms where spills are common. It is also very durable, so the stone can be used in areas with heavy traffic such as hallways or foyers without wearing down or becoming damaged easily. The surface of granite has a low porosity which makes it resistant to dirt buildup.

Marble

Marble is a metamorphic rock of mineral aggregate, with variable hardness and a high natural polish. It can be used as a cheaper alternative to granite flooring.

Marble slabs are generally more economical than granite slabs. Although marble slabs have a glossy appearance, they may have a slight sheen or texture that makes them less desirable for high-traffic areas at first glance. Still, marble slabs offer many of the same benefits as granite slabs with less expense involved.

Slate

Slate flooring is a type of stone that is found in metamorphic rocks. Slate is mined from the earth and then worked to create versatile flooring options for different applications. Slate can be polished to have a high sheen, matte finish — or somewhere in between. There are also textured slates available for those who want a more rustic look without the additional cost of installation.

What Does a Stair Remodel Involve?

Choosing to remodel your staircase can be a small or large project, depending on how much work and how many things you want to change. From wood stairs to carpeting and railings, each part of the staircase can be renovated or repaired. Remodeling possibilities include:

Handrails

Whether the railings are loose, worn or just don’t fit your interior style anymore, these can all be tightened or replaced.

Newel Posts

These are the posts that hold up railings. If they are loose or broken, it can affect the whole handrail.

Balusters

Balusters are the decorative parts of handrails. Iron and wood are the most popular options for these. If you choose to replace your treads, you’ll also have to replace the balusters.

Treads and Risers

Treads and risers are the actual “steps” of a staircase, and may need to be replaced if they are wobbly or worn down.

What Our Customers Say

Responsive! Dan came in, looked at what I was trying to accomplish and found solutions! His workers were excellent.

I’ll start by saying that I’m very happy with our new floors and would hire Footprint Floors again in the future. Cons: Initially I was going to give 4 out of 5 stars for two reasons. 1) I think having some reviews that are not perfect is helpful. Too many 100% 5 star reviews can look fake. After the job was completed and I did a walkthrough with Jonathan he asked if I was willing to review them on google and later texted me a link to make reviewing easier. I doubt if there was tension or any sense of dissatisfaction he would not have offered that. This is slightly manipulating the reviews they get on google but it is also the game business have to play in the age of internet marketing. 2) The first coat of hardwood finish was applied a day earlier than expected. This normally wouldn’t be a problem but it was applied very late in the evening and we returned to the house after dinner to find out that we couldn’t stay the night there as we had planned. More of a heads up about this would be appreciated. Pros (Great Service!): Having a project manager who introduced himself at the start of the project, was very helpful. Jonathan shared his phone number and email so we could ask questions about the project whenever we had them. We did have a few issues that came up as things often do during construction. What sets Footprint Floors apart is how they handled these situations. How you fix mistakes is more important to me than avoiding them. 1) During our initial quote there was a misunderstanding about the type of vent covers we wanted. The order had “Drop-In” vents while we wanted “Flush” vents. This was probably a terminology mistake on the part of my Wife and I. But after the first day of construction I noticed the mistake. Jonathan had the team come back to the house to do additional work to install the flush vent covers. This was needed so we wouldn’t get behind on schedule. There was no finger pointing about the mistake, or adjustments to the budget for the correction. 2) After Completing work we found a few cracked floor tiles in our bathroom on the edge of the hardwood floor. Footprint floors came back a few days later to replace the broken tiles and it looks good as new again. 3) Two weeks after work was completed and paid for, we noticed a board in the middle of our living room starting to swell up on the edges. (looked almost like water damage). We reached out and they scheduled someone to come out the next morning to fix it up at no additional cost. Leo (the person doing the repair) told us that it was likely a bad board. Photos - Living Room (After all flooring complete) - Living Room (After new boards installed before sanding/finish) - Broken bathroom tiles (before fix) - Repaired living room floor (after repair, still drying, actual damaged area was about 12 inches long. It is slightly darker in the middle of the taped area)

The quality, value, and professionalism from this company is amazing. Dan responded immediately to my request and met that same day. Him and his friendly staff kept me in the loop through the whole process. The floors were in such bad shape I wasn’t sure they could be brought back to life but they proved me wrong. I would highly recommend this company. Included a before and after of one of my bedrooms. I chose a dark walnut stain. Thank you so much Dan and team!!

They were efficient, professional, and did a great job with our basement floors!

Dan and his staff were very easy to work with. Our bathroom floor project made a huge difference in the appearance of our home. Dan made sure that the work was done to our satisfaction.
Marty Wygas 04/3/24 — google
My wife and I are absolutely thrilled with our new floors. We had most of the floors on our main level replaced with hardwoods and some laminate in the basement replaced with tiling, and both were beautifully done. Our house feels completely different after this huge upgrade. Footprints Floors was significantly more affordable and reasonably priced than the other quote we got with a big company. The price they quoted for our hardwoods was the same that we were quoted for vinyl plank at the other company (and the other company claimed that their price was 50% off). Footprints also spared the videos and gimmicks when they came to provide an estimate. The owner, Dan (and not a salesman) came to our home, and he was very honest and forthright about project costs. Jonathan (our project manager) and Dan were both very responsive to our many questions and were very patient. They sent team members to our home each day to address our minor concerns/comments towards the end of the project. At the end, they did a final walk through to ensure all our concerns were addressed. Overall, Footprints exceeded our expectations and we couldn’t be happier with our floors. The pricing was more than fair, and the team was very communicative and professional. Thank you again!

Everyone was great to work with, and the floors are beautiful. No complaints!
Amber Randel 03/19/24 — google
I want to share the amazing experience we had with Dan and his Footprints team. We had a new construction home and I found Dan and Footprints to do the tile work. They did such an amazing job, I wish I would have found them sooner so that they could have done our hardwood floors as well! With Dan and his team we had multiple meetings, they asked questions, and gave us options throughout the entire process. Because of this, we were all on the same page and there were no surprises in what they had to do and what I wanted them to do. Dan offered his professional opinion when appropriate and was transparent about pricing and cost at all times. I cannot say enough how much appreciate the quality work and professionalism that comes with Dan and his team. The tile work is beautiful. It’s not often you can say that a contractor is top notch in communication, honesty, and quality work, but Dan and his team are that and more. 5 star PLUS in my opinion. I would recommend them to friends and family and should I need future flooring work, I will be call Dan again without a doubt.

The installers did a fantastic job repairing a broken kitchen tile where the original installers just placed tile over an open floor vent hole. They made sure they did the job right and properly covered the vent and installed new tile. Would certainly use them again AND refer them. Great work!!

We are thrilled with our new wood flooring and couldn't be happier that we found Footprints Floors to work with! Dan Hermansen, co-owner of Footprints, promptly responded to our call for a visit to discuss our project. He followed up with a well-priced bid and a solid contract! As quick as the ink dried, our bundles of beautiful wood arrived to begin 'adjusting' to our home before the installation. We were introduced to Jonathan, Leo, and the rest of the crew when Installation Day arrived and the transformation started evolving quick! The team was friendly, efficient and worked collaboratively (even with us asking questions during the process). They even brought an industrial air purifier to minimize the dust floating while sanding the floors - it was a super clean operation. Dan even came back after the work was complete to ensure we were pleased with the teams' work. The final result? We couldn't have made a better decision than to work with the Footprints team! Our floors are gorgeous and with proper care will outlive us for years (yes, they coached me on maintaining the floors too!). If you're looking for flooring, don't question whether to call Footprints Floors of Kansas City - you'll be so glad you did. Thank you, Dan and team! #hardwoodfloors #FootprintsFloors #teamwork #customerservice #AboveAndBeyond #nomorecarpet

Glen Roe 01/24/24 — google
I hired Footprints Floors to install floor tile to improve the look of a vintage bathroom, and I was extremely pleased with the quality of work and professionalism from everyone on Dan's team. Their communication was frequent and proactive, keeping me up to date on every aspect of the project. Before the project was finished, I re-hired Footprints to redo my kitchen floor, which, again, was completed beyond my best expectations. Pricing was quite reasonable.
