Stay Stress Free With Leak Detection

WyattWorks Plumbing

Leaking pipes and hidden plumbing issues are some of the most common problems homeowners can face. If left undetected, these issues can cause higher water bills, structural damage, and mold growth.

Beyond the damage to your home, leaks also have a significant environmental impact. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), household leaks waste nearly one trillion gallons of water each year in the United States alone. 1

For over four decades, homeowners have trusted WyattWorks for professional Ohio & North Carolina leak detection services to protect their homes, lower utility costs, and help reduce unnecessary water waste.

Common Causes of Leaks

Leaks form from everyday issues like aging pipes, high water pressure, corrosion from mineral buildup, or shifting foundations that strain pipe connections. While these problems may start small, they can quickly escalate if left unaddressed.

Routine maintenance and preventative care protect your plumbing system by giving you a better understanding of how it’s functioning and which components may be wearing out. Identifying and fixing issues before they become major leaks will extend the life of your appliances, prevent costly repairs, and maintain a healthier home.

Here are the most common causes of leaks our technicians service:

Root Intrusion

Tree roots naturally seek out moisture wherever present. If there are small cracks or weak points in a pipe, roots can work their way inside and continue to grow. Over time, this can lead to blockages, pipe damage, and significant leaks. Root intrusion is especially common in older sewer systems and can cause serious damage.

Pipe Corrosion

Pipes corrode as they age, especially metal pipes, and mineral buildup can accelerate this process. As corrosion worsens, small holes form, allowing water to escape and creating hidden underground leaks that may go unnoticed until water appears in the home.

High Water Pressure

While strong water pressure may seem beneficial, excessive pressure can strain your entire plumbing system. This added stress can weaken appliances, break seals, damage joints, and cause small cracks to develop. 2 Left unchecked, high water pressure can significantly shorten the lifespan of your pipes and increase the risk of leaks.

Cracked Seals or Joints

Your plumbing system relies on seals, gaskets, and joints to keep water contained. These components can wear down over time from temperature fluctuations and pressure changes in your water flow. When seals crack or joints loosen, water can begin to leak at connection points, often in areas that are not immediately visible.

Extreme Weather Conditions

Cold weather can have a major impact on your plumbing system. When temperatures drop, the water inside pipes can freeze and expand. This pressure causes pipes to crack or burst. Once the ice thaws, water can escape rapidly, leading to severe leaks or even flooding inside your home.

How We Detect Leaks

Leaks can cause serious damage throughout your home, including warped walls, damaged flooring, weakened structural components, and mold.

Leaks commonly develop around areas of the home where water is used frequently or under constant pressure—sinks, toilets, showers, water heaters, appliance connections, and exposed or aging pipes. Leaks also occur underground and behind walls, making professional detection essential to pinpoint the exact source.

Our Methods:
  • Meter Testing: Meter testing is a simple but highly effective way to identify hidden leaks. By shutting off all water inside your home and monitoring the water meter, we can determine if water is still flowing, indicating a leak somewhere within your system.
  • Infrared Cameras: Our infrared cameras use thermal imaging to detect temperature differences behind walls, floors, or ceilings. These variations in temperature can pinpoint the presence of moisture or leaking water, allowing us to locate leaks without opening up the structure.
  • Digging and Drilling: For leaks located underground or beneath concrete slabs, controlled digging or drilling may be necessary to access the damaged pipe. Our technicians take a careful, targeted approach to repair the issue while minimizing impact to your property.

Leak Repair

Once we’ve located your leak, our team gets to work with a clear plan to resolve the issue quickly. Our customers receive transparency, quality workmanship, and respect throughout the entire process.

We perform a detailed assessment of the affected area and the surrounding plumbing system. Leaks can sometimes be a symptom of a larger issue, so we make sure nothing is overlooked. Depending on the size, location, and severity of the issue, you may have several repair options to choose from. We’ll explain the pros, cons, and long-term benefits of each so you can make a confident decision.

Here’s What You Can Expect:
  • Upfront Estimate: We believe in straightforward service. Before any work begins, you’ll receive a detailed, upfront estimate outlining the cost of your repair. No hidden fees, no unexpected charges.
  • Lasting Repairs: Once you approve the work, we get started right away. We use high-quality materials alongside impeccable industry standards to ensure every repair is done correctly. Our goal is not just to fix the immediate issue, but to strengthen your plumbing system.
  • Cleanup: We understand that plumbing repairs can feel invasive, especially when leaks are behind walls, under floors, or beneath concrete. Respecting your home is a top priority. Once the repair is complete, we thoroughly clean the work area.
  • After Service Support: If you have questions or concerns after service, our team is here to help. We take immense pride in our work standards, so if something isn’t right, we’ll make it right.

The technician was most pleasant and explained everything that he noticed. He was only here to do a plumbing evaluation of the home. He gave some excellent insights about the workings of the home. I would highly recommend him again. He replaced a leaky faucet for one of our bathroom sinks, and also replaced four turn off valves for the supply lines for both sinks.

  • kristine0
Had to have all 7 smoke detectors replaced and an outlet replaced. The only complaint is that when I made the appointment through the chat option, I said that I needed them to bring the smoke detectors. This was not relayed to the electrician and he had to go purchase them. Nothing that I talked about via the chat was relayed to the electrician. Maybe get rid of making appointments that way.

  • Nick Bruno
I've had, kid you not, 4 "big name" plumbing companies give me a quote on unclogging my bathroom sink pipe. The least expensive was $500. Didn't inspect anything, didn't ask questions, they just looked at the sink an pulled out their little chart and said "bathroom sink, $500". I said its a clog barely outta reach of me, it'll likely take you less than 10 minutes...$500. See ya. The following 3 companies wouldn't even entertain snaking the pipe, all tried to pressure me into ridiculous cost of completely replacing the plumbing stack. Is it needed in the future? Sure, but from a simple clog to a 10,12,14k major remodel? Forget them. Find a company that'll do right by you, not only their pocket. Theo was my tech today and he was 10/10. Very knowledgeable, super respectful and most importantly, REAL. He checked out the sink, checked out the stack, did a full inspection and guess what? He then executed the job that was asked of him. 10 minutes completely cleared out the clog. This sink hasn't worked in almost a year because I refused to be strong armed by a money hungry company. Glad I waited! Keep doing you Wyatt Works! I already have 2 people reaching out to you for their needs.
  • Eric Van Boxel
